Being vs. Doing

Resting in being rather than constant doing.

Western culture values doing over being. Zen reverses this: being is primary, doing flows from it. When we rest in being, action becomes effortless. We're human beings, not human doings.

This states the reversal directly: being is primary, doing flows from it — we are human beings, not human doings. Zen's rest is therefore not a pause in productivity but the ground productivity stands on, which is a claim about what you are rather than a scheduling tip.
