Letting Go of Views

Releasing attachment to opinions and beliefs.

We cling to views - political, religious, philosophical. But all views are partial. Zen teaches: don't be attached even to right views. Hold opinions lightly. Be willing to not know.

  • What Zen says about anger

Anger usually arrives welded to a view about who was right. Zen asks you to hold views lightly, including the ones you are sure of.

  • What Zen says about doubt

Zen extends non-attachment to your opinions, including the correct ones: do not cling even to right views. That is harder than it sounds, because it also removes the consolation of being right about your doubt.
