The cloud and rain spirits who bring life and fertility to the land.
Wandjina are powerful ancestral spirits associated with rain, clouds, and fertility. Their striking images are painted in rock shelters across the Kimberley region. They created the land during the Dreaming and continue to bring the wet season rains that renew all life.
The Wandjina came from the clouds and painted themselves on the rocks so they would always be with their people.
Wandjina rock art represents one of the longest continuous art traditions in human history.
