The Stars as Ancestors

How the night sky tells the stories of ancestral beings.

The night sky is a map of Dreaming stories. Each star, constellation, and celestial phenomenon represents ancestral beings and their actions. Reading the sky provides navigation, seasonal knowledge, and connection to the eternal dimension where ancestors continue to exist.

When you look at the stars, you see the campfires of our ancestors who went before us.

Traditional Teaching, Oral Tradition

Aboriginal astronomy represents one of the oldest continuous traditions of celestial observation.

  • What Aboriginal tradition says about grief

The night sky is read as a map of ancestral beings and their actions. For a mourner this means the dead are not somewhere unimaginable — they are visible, nightly, in a direction you can point.
