Art as Legacy

Creating work that will speak to future generations.

The greatest art speaks across time, carrying knowledge from the ancestors to the present and from the present to the future. Creating art is creating legacy - contributing to the unbroken chain of cultural transmission that has sustained Aboriginal peoples for tens of thousands of years.

What we create today, our children's children will see. We paint for them too.

Legacy Teaching, Elder's Teaching

Art as legacy connects past, present, and future in unbroken continuity.

Oral Tradition

  • What Aboriginal tradition says about grief

The last move is forward rather than back: what is made now is made for children not yet born. Grief is folded into a chain of transmission rather than resolved, and the tradition does not promise it ends — only that it has somewhere to go.
