Prakriti — Your Unique Constitutional Blueprint
Prakriti (one's original nature, individual constitution) is determined at conception and remains fixed throughout life — it is the unique combination of the three doshas that makes each person fundamentally different from every other.
Prakriti (from 'pra' = before + 'krti' = creation — 'original creation') is the individual's constitutional baseline — the fixed proportion of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha that was established at the moment of conception based on the genetic material, the health and emotional state of the parents at conception, the season, the planetary influences, and other factors. Unlike Vikriti (current imbalanced state), Prakriti never changes. It is the person's unique psychophysical fingerprint that determines their natural strengths and vulnerabilities, their characteristic emotional responses, their optimal diet and lifestyle, and the diseases they are most susceptible to. Understanding one's Prakriti — whether predominantly Vata, Pitta, Kapha, or a dual or tridoshic combination — is the foundational step in Ayurvedic personalized medicine: all dietary, lifestyle, and therapeutic recommendations are tailored to the individual's Prakriti.
The physician must first understand the Prakriti of the patient; only then can they prescribe treatment.
A landmark 2008 study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found statistically significant correlations between Ayurvedic Prakriti classifications and SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) patterns — providing genomic evidence that Prakriti types represent genuinely distinct biological constitutions rather than mere cultural categories.

- What Ayurveda says about the body
Your constitution is held to be set at conception and not to change afterwards. Naming it is not about a personality type but about a baseline, since what counts as balance for you is not what counts for someone else.
