Triphala — The Three Fruits Formula

Triphala ('three fruits' — Amalaki, Haritaki, Bibhitaki) is the most versatile and widely used formulation in Ayurveda, acting as a gentle daily Rasayana that nourishes all seven tissues while maintaining digestive health and eliminating toxins.

Triphala is a polyherbal formulation combining equal parts of three fruits: Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), and Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellerica). Each fruit pacifies one of the three doshas — Amalaki for Pitta, Haritaki for Vata, Bibhitaki for Kapha — making the combination tridoshic. It is one of Ayurveda's most profound achievements: a single formula that gently detoxifies the digestive tract, promotes proper elimination, nourishes all seven tissues, strengthens the senses, and over time acts as a rejuvenative. The Charaka and Sushruta Samhitas prescribe it as a Rasayana, as a mild laxative taken at night with warm water, and as an eyewash (Netra Prakshalana); the Ashtanga Hridayam recommends the powder with honey and ghee. Its balance of the three doshas is exactly why it can be taken over long periods where a single strong purgative cannot.

Triphala — taken regularly — removes all disease, rejuvenates all tissues, and nourishes the body as a mother nourishes her child.
