Bahá'í Faith

The Maturity of Humanity

Humanity is entering collective maturity; the spiritual and social institutions of this age must reflect this new developmental stage.

The Bahá'í vision sees human history as an organic process of development from infancy through childhood and adolescence to maturity. Humanity is now entering its collective maturity — a stage characterized by the recognition of human oneness, global interdependence, and the capacity for world-embracing institutions.

The ages of its infancy and childhood are past; the tumultuous adolescence of the human race is drawing to a close.

Shoghi Effendi, The World Order of Bahá'u'lláh

The organic developmental metaphor for human civilization provides a distinctive framework for interpreting historical change that is neither cyclical nor random.
