Progressive Development of the Soul
The soul's development continues in all spiritual worlds beyond physical death; there is no final state except continued growth toward God.
The Bahá'í writings teach that spiritual development continues beyond death. The soul progresses through spiritual worlds, moving ever closer to God, growing in knowledge and love. This developmental view of the afterlife avoids both the finalism of heaven/hell accounts and the cyclical pattern of reincarnation, offering a progressive spiritual trajectory.
Know thou of a truth that the soul, after its separation from the body, will continue to progress until it attaineth the presence of God.
Progressive afterlife theology is distinctive in religious history, avoiding the finalism of most traditions while maintaining the significance of earthly spiritual development.
