Forbidding the Carrying of Arms
Bahá'ís should not carry arms unless required by law; a culture of peace begins with individual commitment to non-violence.
The Bahá'í writings discourage the carrying of weapons, except as required by lawful service. This principle connects individual practice to the larger vision of world peace: just as world peace requires disarmament among nations, a culture of peace begins with individuals who do not see violence as a solution to conflicts.
We decree, prohibit and forbid the employment of force, for it is the source of tyranny.
The Bahá'í peace commitment extends from international policy to individual lifestyle choices, creating a coherent multi-level peace ethic.
