Action in Inaction
The wise see action in inaction and inaction in action.
This paradoxical teaching reveals that the quality of action depends not on external movement but on internal attitude. A person sitting still may be mentally churning with desires, while one engaged in intense activity may be perfectly still within. True inaction is freedom from ego-driven motivation, not physical stillness. This understanding liberates us from both compulsive doing and escapist withdrawal.
One who sees inaction in action, and action in inaction, is wise among humans. Such a person is a yogi and has accomplished all action.
Nisargadatta Maharaj explained that the realized being acts without the sense of being the doer, thus action becomes spontaneous and effortless.
