Bhagavad Gita

Already Destroyed

All these warriors have already been destroyed by Me. You are merely the instrument.

Krishna reveals that the battle's outcome is already determined—the warriors are already dead in the divine vision. Arjuna is invited to be an instrument of what is already accomplished in the cosmic order. This teaching paradoxically frees Arjuna from the burden of personal responsibility while calling him to righteous action. We are instruments, not originators; our task is alignment with the flow of divine will.

All these warriors standing arrayed in the opposing armies have already been destroyed by Me. Therefore, arise and win glory. Conquer your enemies and enjoy a flourishing kingdom.

Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita 11.33

This verse teaches nimittamatra—being merely an instrument. When ego surrenders, action flows through us rather than from us.

Here the Gita becomes uncomfortable. Krishna tells Arjuna the men opposite have already been destroyed and that his part is to be the instrument, which is not advice to seek a settlement but advice to act while dropping the belief that he is the author of the outcome.
