Bhagavad Gita

The Divine Glories

Among lights I am the sun; among stars I am the moon; among bodies of water I am the ocean.

Krishna catalogs his divine manifestations—the best and most excellent in each category. These 'vibhutis' (divine glories) are pointers, training the mind to see the Divine in the excellent. Wherever we encounter supreme beauty, power, wisdom, or excellence, we glimpse divine presence. This teaching sanctifies appreciation of excellence as a form of worship, making art, science, and achievement pathways to the Divine.

Of lights I am the radiant sun, among stars I am the moon, and among the Vedas I am the Sama Veda. Among the demigods I am Indra.

Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita 10.21

These vibhutis train perception—seeing God in the most excellent prepares us to see God everywhere.
