Bhagavad Gita

Renouncing Shelter Elsewhere

One who has no shelter other than Me is very dear to Me.

Complete dependence on God alone characterizes the highest devotion. This doesn't mean neglecting practical responsibilities but recognizing that ultimately our security rests in the Divine, not in possessions, relationships, or achievements. When we stop seeking ultimate refuge in the temporary, we find true security in the eternal. This surrender brings profound peace.

One who has no shelter other than Me, and who gives up all fruitive endeavors and is fully determined—such a devotee is very dear to Me.

Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita 12.16

Ramanuja calls this prapatti—total surrender. It is both the means and the fruit of devotion.
