Action Without Bondage
One who is free from ego, whose intelligence is not entangled—even killing, does not kill, nor is bound.
The liberated being acts without creating karma because there is no ego to receive the fruits. Action flows through them without leaving residue. This radical teaching—that even the most extreme action doesn't bind the realized soul—points to the complete freedom possible when ego is transcended. It is not license for immorality but description of a state beyond personal motivation where action serves only divine will.
One who is free from the false ego and whose intelligence is not entangled, even though slaying living beings, does not slay, nor is bound by the reaction.
This verse describes complete liberation—action without the actor. The sage is like a mirror reflecting images without being affected by them.

The Gita's most disputed verse says that one free of ego, even slaying, does not slay and is not bound. Commentators read it as a description of egoless action rather than a permit, and it should still be read knowing it has been quoted by people who wanted a permit.
