Bhagavad Gita

You Are Most Dear

Because you are very dear to Me, I shall tell you what is beneficial. You are My very dear friend.

The intimacy between Krishna and Arjuna models the relationship possible between the devotee and God. The Divine speaks out of love for our benefit, not from impersonal duty. This transforms spirituality from obedience to authority into friendship with the beloved. When we approach God as friend, we receive not commandments but confidences, not law but love.

Never will I tell this to one who is not austere, or devoted, or engaged in service, or who envies Me.

Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita 18.67

Qualification for receiving truth includes devotion and service—not intellectual brilliance but purity of heart and intention.
