The Spirits of Place
Every location has its own spirit or genius loci that must be honored and respected.
The Celts recognized that each place - every spring, hill, grove, and river - possessed its own indwelling spirit. These spirits of place required acknowledgment and offering. To build, settle, or work the land meant entering into relationship with its spirits.
Before you enter any place, greet the spirit that dwells there.
The concept of genius loci shows Celtic awareness of the sentience of nature.
