The Talents
Faithful stewardship of God-given gifts multiplies blessings and brings greater responsibility.
A master entrusts his servants with talents (large sums of money) according to their abilities. Two servants invest and double their talents; the third buries his out of fear. The first two receive praise and greater responsibility; the third loses even what he had. This parable teaches that God's gifts are not for hoarding but for faithful investment. Fear-based inaction is condemned while risk-taking faith is rewarded. What we do with what we've been given determines our future capacity. Unused gifts atrophy; exercised gifts multiply.
Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.
Thomas Aquinas taught that God gives gifts not for our benefit alone but to be multiplied for the common good through faithful service.
