The Ten Virgins
Spiritual preparedness cannot be borrowed; each must cultivate their own readiness for Christ's return.
Ten virgins await the bridegroom; five bring extra oil, five do not. When he arrives at midnight, the foolish virgins cannot borrow oil and miss the wedding feast. The oil represents spiritual preparation that cannot be transferred—personal relationship with God, character developed through practice, faith tested by time. The parable calls for vigilance since the timing of Christ's return is unknown. Procrastination in spiritual matters is dangerous. The door that shuts may not reopen. Be ready always, for you do not know the day or hour.
Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
Søren Kierkegaard emphasized that Christianity requires personal decision and preparation that no one else can make for you.
