The Indwelling Holy Spirit
God's Spirit lives within believers, empowering, guiding, and transforming from within.
Jesus promised that the Father would send the Holy Spirit to dwell within believers forever. This indwelling presence is the distinctive mark of the new covenant—God not merely with us but in us. The Spirit convicts, teaches, guides, comforts, empowers, and produces fruit in character. 'Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit?' This presence makes Christian living possible; apart from the Spirit's power, transformation is impossible. The Spirit's guidance provides wisdom for daily decisions and strength for moral living.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?
A.W. Tozer taught that 'the Spirit-filled life is not a special, deluxe edition of Christianity. It is part and parcel of the total plan of God for His people.'
