Yi in Leadership
Rulers must govern by righteousness, not force.
Confucian political philosophy emphasizes that rulers should govern by yi and virtue, not by force and law alone. Righteous governance wins the hearts of the people; tyranny breeds rebellion.
If you govern with virtue and maintain order through li, the people will have a sense of shame and become good.
Righteous governance is more effective than coercion.
