Confucianism

Continuous Improvement

Wisdom recognizes the need for constant self-improvement.

The wise person never considers themselves complete. There is always more to learn, more room for growth. Self-satisfaction ends progress; humility enables continued development.

The exemplary person is distressed by their own lack of ability, not by lack of recognition.

Confucius, Analects 15.19

Focus on self-improvement rather than recognition.

Analects 15.19: the junzi is distressed by his own lack of ability, not by lack of recognition. That cleanly separates failure from the sting of not being noticed, which is usually the part that actually hurts.
