The Sage

The sage (shengren) is the highest realization of the junzi ideal.

Beyond the junzi is the sage (shengren) - one who has perfected virtue and whose influence transforms society. Confucius modestly denied being a sage, though tradition honors him as one.

I am not born knowing; I am one who loves learning and diligently seeks.

Confucius, Analects 7.20

Even the sage begins as a learner.
