Saying 48 — Moving Mountains Through Peace

Thomas Saying 48's teaching that those who make peace in one house will say to mountains 'Move!' and they will move — links inner harmony with cosmic power.

Gospel of Thomas Saying 48: 'Jesus said: If two make peace with each other in this one house, they will say to the mountain: Move Away, and it will move.' The 'one house' is the inner house of the self — the pneumatic body in which the divine spark dwells alongside the psychic and material dimensions. When these aspects of the self are unified and at peace (the making of two into one from Saying 22), the result is a level of integration that constitutes genuine power — not the Archons' coercive power but the creative power that flows from alignment with the divine. The 'mountain' (obstacle, impossible situation, material resistance) that such a unified person can move is less a literal geographical feature than any obstruction to the divine will. The saying connects Thomas's teaching on inner unification (Saying 22) with its practical consequences: genuine integration of the self produces a quality of presence and effectiveness that conventional power cannot match.

If two make peace with each other in this one house, they will say to the mountain: Move Away, and it will move.

Psychologist Daniel Siegel's concept of integration — differentiated parts linked into a coherent whole — offers a modern parallel to Thomas Saying 48's linking of inner peace with expanded efficacy.
