The Principle of Polarity
Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites.
The fourth Hermetic principle reveals that opposites are identical in nature, differing only in degree. Hot and cold, love and hate, light and dark are the same things at different points on a continuum. Understanding this allows the Hermetist to transmute one state into another.
