The Hereafter - Akhirah

The belief in the eternal life to come that gives meaning and moral weight to earthly actions.

Akhirah (الآخرة) refers to the life after death—the eternal realm where all will be held accountable. Belief in the Hereafter is a pillar of Islamic faith, mentioned over 300 times in the Quran. It includes resurrection, judgment, Paradise (Jannah), and Hell (Jahannam). This belief transforms worldly life—actions carry eternal weight, patience in trials becomes worthwhile, and injustice will ultimately be addressed. The Prophet (PBUH) said this world is a prison for the believer (compared to Paradise) and a paradise for the disbeliever (compared to Hell). Living with awareness of akhirah balances ambition with accountability.

Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your compensation on the Day of Resurrection.

Quran, Surah Ali 'Imran 3:185

Al-Ghazali wrote that remembering death and the akhirah is the key to all spiritual progress—it puts worldly concerns in perspective and motivates righteous action.
