Amanah - Trustworthiness
The sacred responsibility of fulfilling trusts in all matters, from secrets to responsibilities.
Amanah (الأمانة) is the quality of being trustworthy and fulfilling all trusts. The Quran describes the 'trust' (amanah) as so weighty that heavens, earth, and mountains refused it, but humans accepted it. Every responsibility—from keeping secrets to fulfilling duties—is an amanah. The Prophet (PBUH) was known as 'Al-Amin' (the Trustworthy) even before prophethood. Betraying trust is a sign of hypocrisy. In Islamic governance, positions are amanah—given in trust to serve people, not for personal benefit. Trustworthiness is essential for functioning society.
Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due.
The Prophet (PBUH) said: 'Return the trust to the one who entrusted you, and do not betray the one who betrayed you'—maintaining amanah regardless of others' behavior.
