Hubb - Love in Islam
The centrality of love—for Allah, the Prophet, and fellow believers—in Islamic spirituality.
Hubb (الحب) or love is central to Islamic spirituality. The Quran describes believers as 'those who love Allah intensely.' Loving Allah above all else, loving the Prophet (PBUH), and loving fellow believers for Allah's sake are essential aspects of faith. The Prophet (PBUH) said: 'None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his parent, child, and all people.' Love motivates obedience more powerfully than fear alone. The Sufis developed the theology of divine love extensively, seeing the entire spiritual journey as love and longing for the Beloved.
But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah.
Rumi wrote: 'Love is the bridge between you and everything.' The journey to Allah is walked on the path of love—love for Him, His Prophet, and His creation.
