Muraqabah - Awareness of Allah's Observation
The constant consciousness that Allah sees and knows all one's actions and thoughts.
Muraqabah (المراقبة) is living with awareness that Allah is watching—observing our actions, aware of our thoughts, and knowing our hidden intentions. It is the answer to 'What if Allah were watching?' Muraqabah naturally improves behavior, because one who knows they are observed by the All-Seeing is careful in conduct. The Prophet (PBUH) defined ihsan as 'worshipping Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, know that He sees you.' This is muraqabah—the foundational spiritual state that transforms the quality of all actions.
And He is with you wherever you are. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing.
Ibn Arabi described muraqabah as the key to all stations—when one truly knows they are watched by the All-Seeing, behavior naturally aligns with divine will.

- What Islam says about what to say and what to leave unsaid
Muraqabah removes the idea of an unrecorded remark. The Prophet's definition of ihsan — worship as though you see Him, and if you do not, know that He sees you — means there is no private register where gossip does not count.
