Congregational Prayer - Salat al-Jama'ah
The importance and reward of praying together in community.
Salat al-Jama'ah (صلاة الجماعة) is congregational prayer, valued 27 times higher than individual prayer according to the Prophet (PBUH). Prayer in congregation builds community bonds, demonstrates unity, and creates accountability. The Prophet was so insistent on it that he considered punishing those who stayed away. Standing in rows regardless of status demonstrates equality—the rich stands beside the poor, the ruler beside the ruled. Friday prayer (Jumu'ah) is obligatory for men in congregation. The community that prays together develops solidarity and mutual awareness.
Prayer in congregation is twenty-seven times more meritorious than prayer observed alone.
The scholars explain that congregational prayer combines individual worship with community building—each worshipper benefits from the collective devotion.

Prayer in a group is described as many times more meritorious than praying alone. The practical effect is that the community assembles by default, five times a day.
