Syadvada - Conditional Predication

Every statement about reality should be qualified by 'perhaps' or 'from one perspective'.

Syadvada is the method of qualified assertion. Statements should be prefaced with 'syat' (perhaps) to acknowledge their limited perspective. This prevents dogmatism and acknowledges truth's complexity.

Syat - perhaps, from one perspective - this is true.

  • What Jainism says about doubt

Syadvada is the discipline of prefixing assertions with syat. It works as a linguistic brake — you may still assert, you simply may not assert absolutely. Doubt is built into the grammar here instead of being left to temperament.
