The Burden of Time
Each period of time carries a 'burden' that affects its quality and influence.
In Mayan thought, time is not empty but carries burdens - influences that affect all events within that period. The burden of a day, a month, or a year creates a tendency that wise people learn to navigate. Some burdens are light, others heavy.
Time walks with a load on its back; heavy or light, we feel its step.
The burden concept reveals time as qualitative, not merely quantitative.

- What the Maya calendar says about time
Periods of time are pictured as carrying a load, heavy or light, that colours everything inside them. Some years simply arrive harder than others.
