The Norns - Weavers of Destiny
Three sisters weave the fates of all beings: Urd (what was), Verdandi (what is), and Skuld (what shall be).
The Norns are three powerful beings who tend the Well of Fate at the base of Yggdrasil. Urd represents the past, Verdandi the present, and Skuld the future. They weave the fates of gods and mortals alike, though their weaving can be influenced by our actions.
Thence come the maidens mighty in wisdom, three from the dwelling down 'neath the tree.
The Norns represent the three aspects of time that together constitute fate.
