Norse Wisdom

Oral Tradition and Memory

Wisdom was preserved and transmitted through memorized poetry, stories, and genealogies.

Before writing became common, Norse culture preserved its wisdom through oral tradition. Skalds memorized vast quantities of poetry, genealogies traced back generations, and stories carried teachings across centuries. Memory was sacred technology.

The word spoken in the hall travels further than the word written on vellum.

Traditional, Norse Oral Tradition
