Tsukuyomi - The Moon Kami

The kami of the moon, ruling the realm of night and representing the cycles of time.

Tsukuyomi no Mikoto, born from Izanagi's right eye, governs the moon and night. While less prominent than Amaterasu, this kami represents the importance of cycles, rest, and the complementary nature of light and darkness in the cosmic order.

As the sun rules the day, so does Tsukuyomi illuminate the darkness with silver light.

Traditional, Nihon Shoki

Tsukuyomi complements Amaterasu, representing the balanced duality in Shinto cosmology.
