Shinsen - Sacred Food Offerings

The ritual offerings of food and drink presented to the kami at shrines.

Shinsen are offerings of rice, sake, vegetables, fish, and other foods presented on special vessels to the kami. These offerings express gratitude for divine blessings and sustain the reciprocal relationship between humans and kami. After the ritual, offerings are often consumed as blessed food.

We offer to the kami the first fruits of the harvest with grateful hearts.

Traditional, Shrine teachings

Shinsen embodies the Shinto understanding of reciprocal blessing between humans and kami.
