Iwakura - Sacred Stones
Rock formations believed to be seats or dwelling places of kami.
Iwakura are rock formations venerated as the seats or dwelling places of kami. Before shrine buildings existed, these natural formations served as the primary locations for worship. Many shrines still preserve iwakura as their most sacred objects.
The ancient stone has witnessed centuries of prayer, holding the presence of the kami.
Iwakura represent some of the earliest forms of Shinto worship.
