Kannushi - Shinto Priests
The priests who serve the kami and perform rituals at Shinto shrines.
Kannushi are the priests who maintain shrines, perform rituals, and serve as intermediaries between worshippers and kami. They undergo training in ritual, music, and dance, and must maintain purity through abstinences. Many shrines have hereditary priesthoods.
The kannushi dedicates their life to serving the kami and the community of worshippers.
Kannushi maintain the continuity of Shinto tradition across generations.
