Shukyo Kokka - Religious Nation
The understanding of Japan as a land especially blessed by and connected to the kami.
The concept of Japan as a shukyo kokka, or religious nation, reflects the belief that Japan has a special relationship with the kami. This sacred geography, divine ancestry of the imperial line, and presence of kami throughout the land make Japan a uniquely blessed country.
Japan is the land of the kami, blessed from the beginning by divine presence.
This concept profoundly influenced Japanese national identity and history.
