Nirbhau - Without Fear

God is fearless and instills fearlessness in those who connect with the Divine.

Nirbhau declares that the Divine is without fear. By meditating on this quality, devotees also become fearless, transcending worldly anxieties and the fear of death.

One who fears none, and intimidates none - acknowledge that person as spiritually wise.

Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Guru Granth Sahib, Ang 1427

Fearlessness is both a divine attribute and a quality developed through spiritual practice.

  • What Sikhism says about hope

Nirbhau names fearlessness as a divine attribute that transfers to whoever dwells on it, including fearlessness of death. Guru Tegh Bahadur's line sets the test in two directions at once: the wise person neither fears anyone nor frightens anyone.
