Rejection of Begging

Able-bodied persons should not beg, as this undermines dignity and avoids honest effort.

Sikhism strongly discourages begging when one is capable of work. The Gurus criticized the practice of religious begging, teaching that spirituality should not be an excuse to avoid labor.

One who begs for something perishable, is the most unfortunate and miserable.
