Sabr - Patience

Enduring difficulties with equanimity, trusting in divine timing and purpose.

Sabr is patient endurance that comes from understanding that God's timing is perfect. It is not passive resignation but active waiting with faith and continued effort.

With patience, the soul is satisfied.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji, Guru Granth Sahib

Patience allows spiritual growth that cannot be rushed.

  • What Sikhism says about hope

Sabr is patient endurance on the understanding that the timing is not yours. The tradition is careful to distinguish it from resignation: it describes sabr as active waiting with continued effort, not stopping.
