Obstacle as Opportunity
Every obstacle to preferred action becomes material for virtue; what blocks the intended path opens a different path.
Marcus Aurelius expressed this insight repeatedly: when external events frustrate plans, the rational person does not lament but asks what virtue can be practiced here. Illness becomes an opportunity for patience; injustice for courage; loss for equanimity. The obstacle is always raw material for the good will.
The obstacle is the way.
This principle was popularized in Ryan Holiday's The Obstacle Is the Way, a modern interpretation of Stoic philosophy.

- What Stoicism says about fear and anxiety
When something blocks the plan, the Stoic question is which virtue this situation now asks for. Illness asks for patience, loss for composure.
