Accepting What Cannot Be Changed

Wisdom includes recognizing when a situation cannot be changed and choosing to accept it rather than suffer futilely against it.

Amor fati — love of fate — is the Stoic culmination of acceptance. Not merely tolerating what cannot be changed, but embracing it as exactly what should be, given the rational order of the cosmos. This is not resignation but a profound yes to reality in its totality.

Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together.

Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, Book 6

Amor fati in Stoicism influenced Nietzsche's concept of the same name, though with different metaphysical foundations.
