The Discipline of Action

Every action should be taken with a reserve clause, full commitment, and attention to justice toward others.

The discipline of action governs how one pursues preferred indifferents: with full effort, with the reserve clause 'fate permitting,' and always within the constraints of justice and benefit to others. This discipline prevents both laziness and anxious over-attachment to results.

Do not indulge in dreams of having what you have not, but reckon up the chief of the blessings you do possess.

Epictetus, Enchiridion

The discipline of action translates Stoic metaphysics into a practical framework for daily decision-making and goal pursuit.
