Stoicism

Universal Fellowship

All rational beings share in the logos and therefore constitute a single community deserving of mutual care and respect.

Because all humans share rational nature, Stoics hold that we have obligations to all people, not just family, friends, or fellow citizens. This was a radical expansion of moral concern in the ancient world and remains one of Stoicism's most important ethical contributions.

I am a human being, and I consider nothing human to be alien to me.

Terence, Heauton Timorumenos

This line, beloved by Cicero and the Stoics, became a touchstone for humanistic ethics across centuries.
