Stoicism

Stoic Contemplation

Regular meditation on philosophical principles transforms intellectual understanding into living wisdom.

The Stoics distinguished knowing about philosophy from having it as an active habit of mind. Repeated contemplation of principles — through meditation, journaling, and philosophical conversation — gradually transforms them from interesting ideas into automatic habits of perception and response.

Do not then consider life a thing of any great moment. Look at the yawning void of the future, and at that other limitless space, the past.

Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, Book 9

Stoic contemplative practice parallels lectio divina in Christian monasticism and Buddhist dhyana as methods of embodying philosophical insight.
