Ajna Chakra — The Third Eye

The Ajna (command) chakra between the eyebrows is the seat of intuition, inner vision, and the capacity to perceive subtle realities beyond ordinary sensory experience.

The Ajna (command, perception) chakra is located between the eyebrows at the point associated with the pineal gland. It is the seat of Manas (the individual mind), Buddhi (discriminative intelligence), and Ahamkara (ego) — the entire apparatus of the thinking, discerning mind. When Ajna is open, the practitioner can perceive subtle phenomena: premonition, clairvoyance, lucid dreaming, and the direct perception of the energy body. In meditation, concentrating at the Ajna (Trataka — candle gazing, or Shambhavi Mudra — gazing at the eyebrow center) is one of the most direct methods for quieting the mind and accessing higher states. The command (Ajna) aspect means that from this center, the practitioner can direct prana and consciousness throughout the energy body.

Through the Ajna, one sees what cannot be seen with the eyes — the subtle reality underlying the gross world.

Sat Chakra Nirupana, Sat Chakra Nirupana 32

The Sat Chakra Nirupana places the Ajna, the two-petalled 'command' lotus, between the brows and makes it the seat of the mind that directs prana through the whole subtle body.
