Non-Meditation

The effortless state where meditation and non-meditation merge.

Non-meditation is the final yoga of Mahamudra where there is no longer any separation between meditation and daily life. All experience is recognized as the display of mind's nature.

There is nothing to meditate on and no meditator.

Tilopa, Ganges Mahamudra

Non-meditation is the fruit of complete realization.

  • What Tibetan Buddhism says about habit and discipline

Non-meditation is the last of the four yogas of Mahamudra, where meditation and ordinary life stop being separable and no meditator remains. The whole scaffolding is built to be discarded, which sits awkwardly beside a hundred thousand counted prostrations — and the tradition knows it.
