Liberation — The Universal Goal of All Genuine Spiritual Seeking

Liberation (Moksha, Nirvana, Salvation, Fana) — complete and final freedom from suffering and from the misperceptions that cause it — is universally identified as the highest possible human achievement and the ultimate destination of all genuine spiritual paths.

The final destination described by all major spiritual traditions, however different their metaphysics and methods, is a state of complete freedom from suffering that is simultaneously freedom from the ignorance and ego-identification that cause it: the Hindu-Yogic Moksha (release from the cycle of death and rebirth through the recognition of Atman as Brahman), the Buddhist Nirvana (the blowing out of the fires of craving, aversion, and delusion — the end of conditioned suffering), the Christian Salvation (the redemption of the soul through grace and the restoration of the image of God), the Islamic Fana (annihilation of the ego-self in divine unity), the Jewish Olam Ha-Ba (the world to come — perfected existence), and the Taoist Ziran (spontaneous naturalness — the sage's perfect alignment with the Tao). The remarkable convergence of these descriptions — despite the profound differences in their theological and cosmological frameworks — suggests they are pointing toward a common human possibility: the complete end of suffering through the complete dissolution of its root cause.

The truth shall set you free.

Jesus, John 8:32

Philosopher Walter Stace's classic Mysticism and Philosophy analyzed mystical experiences across all major traditions and documented that the 'unifying vision' — the direct recognition of the fundamental unity of all existence — appears as the common core of authentic mystical experience regardless of cultural or religious context, supporting the universal teaching that liberation is a common human possibility.
